The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has impounded more than 200 vehicles deemed unfit for the road in a sweeping enforcement operation aimed at boosting road safety across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by the Director of the VIS, Mr. Akin-George Fashola. The statement was signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
According to Fashola, the operation—which he personally led—focused on identifying and removing unroadworthy vehicles from Lagos roads, particularly commercial minibuses such as Danfo and Korope that often pose significant safety risks.
“The operation is not restricted to private vehicles alone, as is commonly believed, but extends to all categories of vehicles contributing to the state’s transport ecosystem,” Fashola said.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, especially those intended for commercial use.
“Before commercialising your vehicle, make sure it is fit for the road. You can even take it to any of our annexe offices for proper inspection before putting it into operation,” he advised.
Fashola reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustained enforcement and continuous monitoring in a bid to promote safer roads and ensure a more efficient transportation system across Lagos State.
