Lagos – April 8, 2025: Pascal Gabriel Dozie, renowned economist, entrepreneur, and founder of the now-defunct Diamond Bank Plc, has died.
He was aged 85.
According to a report by Nigerian media outlets, Dozie died in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, following complications from an age-related illness. His death comes just a day before what would have been his 86th birthday.
Dozie was widely respected as one of Nigeria’s leading figures in banking and finance. He founded Diamond Bank in 1990 and served as its Chairman, leading the institution through years of innovation and growth before its eventual merger with Access Bank in 2019.
He later handed over the reins of the bank to his son, Uzoma Dozie, continuing a legacy of family involvement in Nigeria’s financial sector.
Beyond banking, Pascal Dozie played pivotal roles in various sectors, including telecommunications, serving as Chairman of MTN Nigeria, and holding multiple board memberships across corporate Nigeria.
He is survived by his wife, Chinyere Dozie, and five children, alongside other relatives.
