Kogi, Nigeria – Embattled Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged that the ongoing petition for her recall was orchestrated by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the backing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The senator, who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the claim while addressing a massive crowd during her homecoming rally on Tuesday.
INEC’s Role in the Controversy
The controversy began when INEC acknowledged receiving the recall petition but noted that key details—such as the addresses and phone numbers of petitioners—were missing. The commission later confirmed that the missing information had been provided and verified.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused INEC of coaching the petitioners to ensure the recall process was successfully filed.
“What I see INEC doing is aiding and guiding petitioners on how to perfect their illicit acts,” she alleged.
“The first time the petition was submitted, they didn’t have addresses or phone numbers, but INEC guided them on how to provide the missing details. Now, they’ve submitted a letterhead with an address that does not even exist.”
Political Battle Intensifies
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall petition comes amid her ongoing feud with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment. She was recently suspended from the Senate for six months over alleged misconduct during plenary.
Her supporters see the recall move as a politically motivated attack, further deepening tensions between her and the ruling APC-led government in Kogi State.
