Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that for peace to return to Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara must take the necessary legal steps.

Wike stated that Fubara must re-present the 2025 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, and also resubmit the list of his commissioners for clearance.

“Peace Comes with Doing the Right Thing” – Wike
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike maintained that peace in Rivers State hinges on Fubara’s compliance with legal and political norms.

“What is peace? What is important is, let the right thing be done. When the right things are done, there will be peace.

But if the right thing is not done, how would you say you want peace? Peace is predicated on doing the right thing.

Go and re-present the budget, go and submit the list of the commissioners. You cannot do illegality,” Wike said.

Wike on Fubara’s Emergence and Ijaw Politics
Wike also revealed that he personally picked Fubara for the governorship position despite resistance from some Ijaw politicians within the state.

He further argued that the Ijaws remain a minority in Rivers State and the Niger Delta, emphasizing that their only realistic path to governorship in the region is Bayelsa State.

His comments come amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, which has seen a rift between Wike and Fubara, as well as a power struggle within the State Assembly.
