Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, has failed in his bid for re-election into the FIFA Council, narrowly losing by a single vote.
At the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly held in Cairo on Wednesday, Pinnick secured 28 votes, while Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi claimed the last available seat with 29 votes.

- Nigeria’s Amaju Pinnick – 28 votes (eliminated)
Setback for Pinnick
Pinnick, who has been a member of FIFA’s highest decision-making body since 2021, was hoping to secure another term but fell short in the tightly contested election.
Women’s Category Result
In the women’s category, Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros) won the seat with 30 votes, defeating:
- Lydia Nsekera – 13 votes
- Isha Johansen – 7 votes
Pinnick’s loss represents a blow to Nigeria’s influence in global football governance, but he remains an important figure in African football administration.
