A fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at the premises of Geometric Power, operators of Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest electricity distribution company (DisCo).

In a statement, the Geometric Power Management confirmed the incident, stating that the fire affected a temporary building located within the company’s premises at the Osisioma Industrial Layout, Aba, Abia State.

Extent of Damage and Response
According to the company, the affected building was previously used by Group 5, a now-defunct South African electricity firm, during the construction of power facilities over 12 years ago.

“The building was used by a defunct South African electricity firm known as Group 5 during the construction of facilities in the integrated power company and has been of little use in over 12 years,” the statement read.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it was successfully contained by Geometric Power staff before the Abia State Fire Service arrived.

Commendations for Fire Containment Efforts
The company commended its staff for their quick response and praised the Abia State Fire Service for its swift intervention and professionalism.

“Geometric Power management commends its staff members for their vigilance and gallant efforts in containing the fire and the Abia State Fire Service for its swift response and professionalism,” the statement added.

The management also expressed gratitude to the public for their concern and support following the incident.

While there were no reports of casualties or major disruptions to power supply, an investigation is expected to determine the cause of the fire.
