YABA, LAGOS – Journalists and media professionals in Lagos gathered at GoMyCode Yaba on Herbert Macaulay Way today for a Google News Initiative (GNI) workshop focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to combat misinformation and enhance reporting.
The workshop, organized by the GNI, aimed to equip attendees with cutting-edge AI tools and strategies to navigate the increasingly digital media landscape. Participants explored various methods for identifying, verifying, and countering the spread of false information, emphasizing the critical role of fact-checking and journalistic integrity.
A key focus of the training was Google Pinpoint, a tool designed to analyze large datasets, including documents, audio files, and images. Attendees received in-depth guidance on extracting key information and identifying patterns within vast amounts of data. The workshop also introduced NotebookLM, an AI-powered research assistant that helps summarize, analyze, and synthesize information from multiple sources, streamlining research for journalists.
Furthermore, participants gained a foundational understanding of various Google AI tools applicable to content creation, data visualization, and audience engagement, with the goal of improving reporting efficiency and accuracy.
