Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday, declared that he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.
Obasa made this statement after returning to the Assembly with armed security operatives.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he asserted.
On January 13, 2025, lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly impeached Obasa over allegations of misappropriation.
At the time of his removal, Obasa was in the United States.
During his absence, his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was appointed and sworn in as Speaker.
Upon his return, Obasa contested his impeachment, arguing that due process was not followed in his removal, sparking political tension within the Assembly.
