Nigeria’s national grid suffered another collapse on Wednesday, marking the second major disturbance of the year and leaving parts of the country without electricity.

According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the grid collapse occurred around 11:30 a.m. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to disclose the cause of the disruption.

Confirming the development, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced that the outage affected its franchise areas but assured customers that power restoration was underway.

“We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 a.m. today (Wednesday), causing a power outage across our service areas,” AEDC stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “While gradual restoration has commenced, we are working with relevant stakeholders to fully restore supply as soon as the grid is stabilized.”

Similarly, a popular Nigerian National Grid monitoring account on X confirmed the incident, writing: “There was a ‘GRID DISTURBANCE’ before noon today. Parts of the country experienced an outage.”

Efforts to obtain an official response from TCN were unsuccessful as its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, said she was in transit and would provide updates later.

This latest collapse follows a similar incident on January 11, 2025, raising fresh concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
