Atsi Kefas, sister to Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has died following an accidental gunshot wound inflicted by a police escort during an attack by gunmen.
The incident occurred last Thursday along Kente Road in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Atsi was traveling with her mother, Jumai Kefas, when their convoy came under attack. In the chaos, a police officer assigned to their security detail mistakenly shot Atsi while attempting to repel the attackers.
After sustaining critical injuries, Atsi Kefas was transported to a hospital in Abuja for advanced medical care. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday night.
“She died last night. She finally succumbed to her injuries. The governor and his family are yet to release an official statement on the passing of Atsi Kefas. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” a source revealed.
A close associate of the governor also confirmed her death, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
The governor’s family has not yet issued an official statement, but the incident has sparked widespread condolences and reflections on the challenges of security in the region.
