Tinubu Reshuffles South East Development Commission Leadership

President Bola Tinubu has restructured the leadership of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), appointing Emeka Nworgu as the new chairman in place of Hon. Emeka Atuma.

The shake-up also includes the replacement of key executive directors and the addition of new board members.

The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, the President replaced three executive directors from the initial board and nominated two additional members to strengthen the commission.

Hon. Mark C. Okoye retains his position as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the 16-member board, which now includes one more member than its previous composition.

Among the new appointees are Stanley Ohajuruka, who replaces Anthony Ugbo as Executive Director for Finance, and Toby Okechukwu, taking over from Obinna Obiekweihe as Executive Director for Projects. Chief Sylvester Okonkwo now serves as Executive Director for Corporate Services, succeeding Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.

Additionally, Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede have been nominated as executive directors without specific portfolios.

Several board members have been retained, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo. Others retained are Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.

The removal of board member Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa was also confirmed in the statement.

Onanuga noted that all appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. He emphasized President Tinubu’s expectation that the revamped leadership will bring their expertise to bear in fulfilling the commission’s mandate to drive development in the Southeast region.
