Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has expressed gratitude to the people of the state following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

Addressing journalists in Akure, the state capital, after being declared the winner, Aiyedatiwa pledged to continue serving the people diligently. “I thank Ondo for the renewed mandate given to me to be their governor beyond 2025, and I promise to serve them,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner after he secured the highest number of votes.

In the hotly contested election, Aiyedatiwa defeated his main challengers, including Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party (LP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among others.

Announcing the results, INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, stated that Aiyedatiwa polled a total of 366,781 votes. His closest rival, Ajayi, garnered 117,845 votes, while the Labour Party candidate received 1,162 votes.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s re-election marks a continuation of APC leadership in Ondo State, with the governor promising to uphold his commitment to development and progress in the state.
